Reliance Jio created a buzz in the Indian mobile phone market with the launch of a 4G feature phone called Jio Phone. Following the same, it looks like the company is in plans to focus on the laptop market. The next big move taken by Jio could be to launch laptops running Windows 10 along with inbuilt cellular connectivity.
A recent report by The Economic Times states that Reliance Jio is in talks with the US-based chipmaker Qualcomm in order to launch these 4G laptops. And, it goes without saying that these Qualcomm laptops will arrive with bundled 4G connectivity from Reliance Jio. Qualcomm is likely in talks with Jio to come up with a 4G feature phone.
Given that the Qualcomm powered laptops are yet to be released in the market, it might take a considerable time for the 4G laptops from Reliance Jio to hit the market. This is not the first time that we are talking about Reliance Jio 4G laptop with a SIM slot as the initial rumors regarding the same hit the web last year.
The report quotes Miguel Nunes, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies stating, “…we have talked to Jio. They could take the device and bundle it with data and content.”
Snapdragon 835 powered laptops
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mobile Platform is touted to be the future of mobile laptop computing enabling Always Connected PCs. Already, a few laptop manufacturers such as Asus, HP and Lenovo have come up with Snapdragon-powered laptops. Also, Qualcomm is in talks with the homegrown IoT brand Smartron to bring laptops powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset.

Apart from the LTE connectivity, the Snapdragon 835 SoC will provide increased battery life to the devices that use the chipset. It is touted that the laptops based on this processor can last for around 20 hours. And, these laptops are claimed to turn on instantly without taking a few seconds to come out of the sleep mode. And, the mobile connectivity will ensure better privacy and security than the public Wi-Fi hotspots.
4G laptops are on the horizon
Laptops with 4G connectivity and long-lasting battery life are on the horizon. Such laptops are considered to be the future of computing as mobile connectivity on a laptop will be convenient when we are on the go. Going by the current situation in the Indian telecom arena wherein the data cost per GB is estimated to be under Rs. 20. This will be more favorable for the users as they need not pay a hefty cost to use 4G connectivity on laptops.
